Why use dream analysis?

It is a personal development tool when used correctly. It is important when analyzing our dreams, to remember that every aspect or symbol in the dream relates to our self. If you are dreaming of your mother, a past lover, a policeman, a homeless person…whatever, it is an aspect of yourself and not that individual that is trying to communicate with you. If we dream of a flower, a color, a guitar or any other inanimate object, it relates somehow to the message that our unconscious mind is trying to give us. Due to the importance of each symbol, it can become very complex to analyse a dream without the right tools or experience. I have many years of experience in dream analysis. This method has helped many people uncover areas of their nature that they can use to progress in their lives.

How can dream analysis help me?

If we can understand that there are many aspects to our nature, some that we use all the time and some that we use under stress, in unusual or rare situations, we can conceptualise that these aspects may come to us in our dreams, disguised as other people or things. If we think about our different moods, we can visualise our happy, sad, hurt, loving angry selves. However, there are many more aspect of us that remain unknown or very subtle. Our childhood has left it's mark, even if we had the happiest childhood in the world. Being left with a sitter may have brought up great separation anxiety. A childs mind is not rational, it is emotional. Today, we may feel deserted or rejected when our partner wants to do something without us. We may rationalise that it is okay and quite right that we have together time and separate time, but our emotional child still feels rejection. This can lead to difficulty in relationships. Dream analysis can assit us in both this type of subtle relational issue or more obvious life changing issues.

What can I offer?

My experience and knowledge in dream analysis and mental health can assist you to put all of the dream symbols together. I can help you to understand the mysteries of the unconscious mind. This benefits you. You learn to understand how to use your positive aspects and to have greater control of your negative aspects. You can bring forth your more assertive self, your more sexual, playful, adventuring positive or ambitious self. You can learn to put the critical or shame scripts from childhood into the background of your consciousness instead of constantly running in the forground of your unconscious minds. This gives you greater control and insight on how to improve your life and move forward.

What if my dreams are rude or I'm doing something really embarrassing?

Dreams can often contain negative images and anti social concepts. Some dreamers can be concerned that there is something really wrong with them if they have extremely violent or sexual dreams not considered the norm. These dreams often frighten or scare the dreamer due to their intensity. The interpretation may be very different from the presenting dream. There should be no fear of judgment or discrimination for valid dream content. As an experienced professional in the dream analysis field I have heard some very disturbing material. Once analysed it is a relief to the dreamer to understand the hidden message. Remember, our unconscious works on a primitive symbolic level. That's how it works.

What if I don't remember all of my dreams?

People often say they do not remember their dreams. It is often useful to keep a small writing pad and pen beside your bed. If you stir through the night and recall a dream image, write down a few key words or images from the dream. It will assist you the next day to recall it.Often, only small snippets or scenes are remembered. If this is so, then this is the part of the dream that is important to you. It is usually wonderful material for dream analysis.

How do I write down my dreams for analysis?

Long epic dreams are not good subject matter for dream analysis.Pick some scenes from an epic dream, the scenes that seemed to have affected you the most strongly. In this way you can have a good clear outcome. In fact, the smaller scenes, once analysed, will help you understand the larger epic dream and the message it is giving you.

When you enter a dream for analysis, please try to keep your dreams succinct. Conversation may not be important, unless there is a strong sense to a particular word. Small strong sentences or words, like “Come back” or “Stop”. Sometimes a question or query is important, but generally, long conversations don’t give as much information as to whom you were talking, the theme of the conversation, where they were, and how they appeared. Something like, “I was talking to my sister, we were at the beach, she had on a green dress and she seemed really happy about her new boyfriend.”

You can either enter your free associations and other information or you can chose not to do so. I will still analyse any dream material submitted. You do not need to free associate or do inner work at home if that is not what you feel you need right now. This website is about you and what your needs are.

Writing scenes:

You have been given three scenes that you can contribute. If your dream does not need three scenes, that is fine. You need to think about your dream as scenes in a play. Dreams often jump from one thing to another. Here is an example of a dream  and three scenes.

Scene 1.

I was in a car. The car would not steer properly. My best friend was driving and she didn’t want to listen to me. I wanted her to stop. I felt like we were out of control and going to crash.

Scene 2.

We stopped at a petrol station and were getting petrol. I didn't want to get back in the car. My friend was flirting with lots of men while she was filling up the car.

Scene 3.

I got back into the car. My friend was not with me. The car was full of nuns. They were all fat. There were two in the front with one driving. I was squashed in the middle in the back seat with a nun each side of me.

This dream divides really well into three scenes. The first is the car ride, the second is the petrol station scene and the third is being squashed in with nuns.

Preferably, I would like a little more detail. What other things did you notice in the dream? If a color seems important, piece of clothing or scenery, it should be included. If something about an object brings up a feeling or reminds you of something, include this too.

Example: “There was a gnarled old tree. It reminded me of a hanging tree and it frightened me.”

How do I free associate?

Once you have typed in your three dream scenes, it is time to free associate the symbols. It is important to let your imagination flow. Do not let social taboos stop you from letting your mind wander. If something comes into your mind, write it down, do not dismiss it. This is the most vital aspect of good dream analysis. The quality of your reading depends on the quality of your free associations. This can take practice. Have plenty of paper handy. Write down your scenes. List your symbols, one at a time. Think about what this thing or person represents to you. What is the essence of that object or person?

Example:  Tree: big, green, old, growth, old growth, past growth, something from my past, green, not mature, green, young, when I was young, something from my past when I was young and not mature.

In this way, we can see that the old tree may be representing something from the past and not a tree at all. Putting all of this together in the right way can take experience and specialized knowledge. Each person will have a different interpretation, a different free association to the concept of that old tree.

Example: Mother: My nurturer, my best friend, my role model, my hero, brave, coping, putting up with all lifes troubles, strong, hardworking, superwoman, encouraging, able to do it on her own. This positive mother probably represents an aspect of the self that can do anything.

Example: Mother: Nagging, complaining, putting me down, criticising me, makes me feel guilty for everything, I'm never good enough, I'm a bad person if I want to do something for me. This negative mother represents how childhood scripts can continue in our unconscious. This person is her own worst critic.

To Begin:

You will find lots of space for your dream associations. Please use this freely and free associate as much as you like. If you have not used this service before, please tell me a little about yourself in the beginning of this section. Let me know what is going on in your life. Let me get to know where you are at in your life. This will build some rapport between us. This also assists me to understand your dream in the context of who you are.

Step 1. Contribute up to three scenes in the required fields. Be succinct, but include strong feeling (fear, anger, pain, sexual attraction, love, pity), sensations (cold, damp, hot, bright, gooey, soft, hard, dark, bitter taste) or words (stop, hurry, where are you, what have you done, you know me, baby). Include scenery that stood out to you and any colors that seemed important.

Step 2. In the free association field, introduce yourself to me and let me know where you are at in your life. Spend time free associating your dream symbols. Let your mind wander from one theme to the next. If it enters your mind, write it down.

Good dreaming….
